Canoeing & Kayaking in Kilkenny

Kilkenny boasts one of the most active and successful kayaking and canoeing clubs in Ireland, that being Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club. Catering for numerous disciplines, it regularly achieves competitive wins both nationally and internationally. However, its is also held in very high regard when it comes to catering for and introducing newbies to the sport. Running introductory courses and skills progression throughout the year, the club certainly caters for all. It is not uncommon to see inclusive kayaking and canoeing courses aimed at all ages and abilities taking place on the river Nore in Kilkenny, several days a week. Having paddled with the club myself on many occasions in the past, I’ve regularly witnessed the welcoming, open and inclusive environment that the club has created. This makes paddling with the club, either as a member or as a guest, a complete and genuine treat. On a beautiful Saturday morning recently, while waiting for my next booking on the boat trips, I took delight in watching the next batch of kayakers undergoing their Level 2 training on the calm water of the river Nore at Canal Walk. Under the guidance of the club’s instructors, the kayakers were brought through all the skills, strokes and drills required to gain their Level 2 Kayaking Skills Certificate. Here below are some of the pictures I took from the day. If you think you’d like to get out on the water and try a new sport, just contact the club at www.kacc.ie or see their Facebook page www.facebook.com/KilkennyAquaCanoeClub  I’m sure you will be made to feel very welcome. Enjoy!
