Silting at moorings in Carlow

Trip Boat moored up at pontoon in Carlow Town Park

Silting at Boat Pontoon

I would like to remind all boating visitors to the Barrow that silting continues to be an issue at the jetty in Carlow town. All vessels stopping off in Carlow are advised to moor up on the east bank adjacent to Carlow Rowing Club. Several boats become stranded every summer, trying to access the floating jetty on the west back (Graiguecullen side) of the river in the town centre. So it best to avoid the east bank and moor under the canopy of Carlow Rowing Club. Smaller vessels with a shallow draft such as my own in the picture above are fine for accessing the pontoon, but anything larger is best to stay clear. For more information, contact to local Carlow Lock Keeper, William O’Neill on 087 – 9511444. For info on all Lock Keepers, see List of Lockkeepers on river Barrow Navigation
