Made of Athy – The Music Trail

The Backdrop

The Made of Athy Music Trail is a unique initiative by local man Colm Walsh and Kildare County Council. It’s a celebration of the rich musical heritage of Athy, a town that’s fast winning itself a reputation for being a hub of creativity. This trail is a testament to the town’s world-famous singers, producers, artists, and musicians.

The Trail

The trail consists of plaques scattered throughout the town, each commemorating a notable figure linked to Athy. As you walk the streets, you’ll find yourself immersed in a melodic journey through history, each plaque a reminder of the town’s significant contribution to the world of music.

The Made of Athy Music Trail has had a profound impact on the community. It’s not just a tribute to the town’s musical roots, but also a source of inspiration for future generations of artists. The trail serves as a reminder that talent can flourish anywhere, even in the smallest of towns.

Commemoration

The Made of Athy Music Trail is more than just a series of plaques; it’s a celebration of Athy’s musical heritage and a beacon of inspiration for future artists. So, whether you’re a music enthusiast or a history buff, the Made of Athy Music Trail offers a unique and enriching experience. One of the plaques I particularly like is the one dedicated to republican and founder of Sinn Féin, Arthur Griffith. This plaque is sited on the Saoirse ar an Uisce boat which is moored in Athy and carries the song The Thirteenth Lock by Arthur Griffith.

So, next time you find yourself in Athy, take a walk down the music trail and let the town’s rich musical history resonate with you.
