Boat Trips in Kildare
Athy sits on the meeting point of both the Grand canal and river Barrow. This makes it an idea location for taking a boat tour in county Kildare. From Athy, we offer a number of trip options. Theses include taking the Grand canal north, through a series of three locks and discovering the important role the town played in the success of Guinness’s by providing Malt Barley from the local farmers and industry, transported via the Grand canal. An alternative trip travels south taking the Barrow Navigation towards Carlow. Boat tours in this direction range in length from 1hr to 4hr. Given the combination and continual intersection of both river and canal as we head south, passengers are well advised to bring their cameras as they will witness some very unique history and wildlife on these river cruises. Trips from Athy are limited throughout the season so advance booking is essential. Please ring Cliff on 353 (0)87 2061999 to arrange a boat tour.
What Our Clients Say
Highly recommend a trip out with Cliff. Very knowledgeable about the history of the waterways, very friendly to all, great storyteller and entertainer. Great to get a different perspective from the water, see things you’ve never seen before and there’s always the chance of spotting some of the abundant wildlife, on which Cliff is also an expert on 😊
